"The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand."
– Psalm 37:23-24 (NIV)
Reflection
Have you ever felt like your life is a puzzle missing key pieces? Those moments when nothing seems to align, and every attempt to make sense of things leaves you more confused? I understand – we've all been there. Perhaps you're in that season right now, trying everything you know, but the pieces just won't fit together.
In these moments of uncertainty, it's natural to grip tighter, to try harder to maintain control. We live in a world that celebrates self-reliance and independence, and there's wisdom in taking responsibility for our lives. Yet sometimes, this very independence can become a barrier between us and God's perfect plan. We find ourselves exhausted from trying to figure everything out on our own.
But what does it really mean to trust God with the unknown? This question often comes up when we're faced with uncertainty, when the path ahead seems covered in fog. We often equate surrender with losing our autonomy, but God calls us to trust Him not because He wants to diminish us. Surrender isn’t a loss of humanity, our voice, our dreams, or our identity. —it’s an alignment with divine purpose.
Throughout Scripture, we see how God's plans unfold in ways that honor and elevate those who trust Him:
He planned creation and entrusted humanity with dominion over the earth (Genesis 1:26-28)
He ordained John the Baptist to prepare the way for Jesus (Luke 1:13-17)
He chose Mary, a young, betrothed virgin, to carry the Messiah (Luke 1:26-38)
He orchestrated every twist and turn in Joseph's life—from betrayal to imprisonment to leadership—to save nations (Genesis 50:20)
Each of these stories reveals a profound truth: God's plans are always intentional, even when they appear unconventional or confusing to us. They remind us that surrender isn't about losing ourselves—it's about finding our true purpose in His perfect design.
This truth resonates deeply with Jeremiah 29:11:
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
I'll be honest with you – trusting God's plan hasn't always been easy for me, especially during tough seasons. I've learned that trying to navigate life without aligning with His purpose feels like running a never-ending race, chasing after others' definitions of success or rushing from one opportunity to another. Life becomes scattered, fragmented, losing its deeper meaning.
But here's the beautiful truth: God doesn't leave us in this chaos. He longs to bring order to our confusion, to align our decisions and desires with His divine purpose. When we surrender to Him, we discover that living purposefully isn't about striving harder—it's about trusting deeper.
We often quote Jeremiah 29:11, claiming God's good plans for our lives. But the real question is: Are we ready to truly let go? To surrender our carefully crafted plans, our timelines, our fears, and even our strengths to Him?
Spend time in prayer today, asking God to help you surrender control of your future to Him
Reflect on areas where you've held back and invite Him to realign your heart with His perfect will
Father God, I thank You for the plans You have for me—plans that are good and filled with hope. Help me to trust You completely, even when I can't see the full picture. Teach me to surrender my ambitions and align my desires with Yours. Show me the areas where I am holding back and trusting in my own strength. Let my life reflect the beauty of walking in step with Your purpose. In Jesus' name, Amen
