"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."

– Joshua 1:9 (NIV)

Reflection

Yesterday, we reflected on living with purpose, an essential part of walking in God’s plan. But stepping out in faith isn’t only about pursuing purpose; it’s also about obeying God in the small, everyday moments. Yet walking boldly in faith often feels intimidating, doesn’t it? Whether it’s pursuing our purpose, making a move God has laid on our heart, or stepping into something completely new, the uncertainty can feel overwhelming. Questions like, “What if I fail?”, “What if I’m not enough?” or “What if it’s the wrong move” keep coming up in our minds as we feel the Fear loud and clear. Today, let’s explore practical ways to walk boldly in faith, trusting in God’s promises even when the path is unclear.

Practical Steps to Walk in Boldness

  • Start Small

The journey of faith begins with a single step. Sometimes, we’re tempted to wait until everything is perfectly aligned before we act, but faith requires us to move even when we don’t have all the answers. Peter stepped out of the boat to walk on water only at Jesus’ call for him to step out. He didn’t wait for reassurance that the waves would be calm.

Start with what God has placed in your heart. Maybe it’s sending that email, starting a conversation, or writing down a vision He’s given you. Remember, we don’t despise small beginnings. Every small step of obedience builds momentum and strengthens your faith.

  • Seek God in Prayer

Boldness in faith is rooted in prayer. It’s through prayer that we align our hearts with God’s will and find the courage to trust Him. Jesus often withdrew to pray before significant moments in His ministry. If even Jesus leaned on prayer, how much more should we?

Pray for clarity, wisdom, and the courage to act. Invite God into your decision-making process and ask Him to reveal the next steps. Prayer isn’t just about asking—it’s about listening. When we take time to hear God’s voice, we gain the confidence and assurance to move forward, knowing He is guiding us.

  • Surround Yourself with Support

God never intended for us to walk this journey alone. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 reminds us:

"Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up."

One of my teachers would always emphasize on what she calls “Circle of Faith”. It’s the people who will not only pray with you but also stay on you to execute what you’ve said you will do. Find a community of believers who will encourage you, pray for you, and speak life into your journey - mentors, friends, or family members who can remind you of God’s promises when doubt creeps in. The right people can help you stay accountable and provide the support you need to keep moving forward.

  • Focus on God’s Promises and Faithfulness

Faith isn’t about ignoring fear; it’s about replacing it with truth. Write down every word that God has spoken to/about you and focus on this. Keep written records and revisit your journals often. Sometimes, we forget God’s specific words to us while doing our everyday activities and rehashing his promises to us keep focused on his truth rather than the discouragements that we are experiencing. As well, looking back on God’s faithfulness in the past gives us confidence for the future. When David faced Goliath, he recalled how God had delivered him from the lion and the bear. That memory gave him the boldness to believe that God would deliver him again. How has God provided, protected, or guided you in the past? These memories are reminders that the same God who was faithful then will be faithful now. As the saying goes, “God makes provision for His vision.” Trust that He will supply what you need as you walk in obedience.

Child of God, faith often pushes us out of our comfort zones into the unknown, where we must rely on God’s guidance. Yes, there may be moments when it feels like you’re biting off more than you can chew but go ahead and bite, God will help you chew it. God’s Word repeatedly reminds us to be strong and courageous, not because we’re sufficient on our own, but because He is with us. Trust in His faithfulness, and you will see that stepping out in faith is not only possible—it’s transformational!

  • This week action steps has been about taking action. Doing that one thing, no matter how small that we've been meaning to do. Pray for the boldness to act on what you have identified needs to be done, and trust that He will provide everything you need to move forward.

Lord, thank You for calling me to walk in faith. I admit that fear and uncertainty often hold me back, but today, I choose to trust in Your promises. Help me take the steps You’ve placed before me, no matter how uncertain the path feels. Fill me with boldness, help me to find the support I need, and remind me of Your constant presence. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
